The links between John Davidson’s science and his political activism made him a local environmental folk hero. His conservationist ideals greatly affected how the region looked after resources and led to the banning of commercial activity in Garibaldi Park and the protection of watersheds on Vancouver’s north shore. He met his goals of environmental conservation as an educator and organizer rather than as a researcher.
John Davidson, while not well known to his fellow botanists around the world, taught Vancouverites of all backgrounds to understand how they were connected to their surroundings and to see nature in new ways.
